SugarCoat Mobile Application
Problem/opportunity:
Approximately 1.25 million Americans live with type 1 diabetes, and around 40,000 new diagnoses occur annually.
Unfortunately, less than a third of individuals with type 1 diabetes consistently achieve their target blood glucose levels.
For college students with type 1 diabetes, managing their condition during this critical phase of life can be challenging due to irregular schedules, stress, and dietary changes. There’s a need for patient-friendly resources to support them effectively.
Solution:
A proposed mobile application aims to empower college students with type 1 diabetes by providing interactive resources in three categories: personal tracking, lifestyle guidance, and a healthcare team portal.
The incentive-based personal tracking feature will engage students in monitoring their blood glucose, stress levels, and diet. Positive reinforcement and reminders will enhance participation.
Additionally, the app will offer lifestyle guidance specific to type 1 diabetes, addressing health risks related to campus food, alcohol, and stress management, while streamlining communication with healthcare professionals.
